Udemy

Udemy is a marketplace for online courses: 250,000+ courses by independent instructors in development, AI, business, marketing and design, each bought once with lifetime access, or a curated 28,000+ through the Personal Plan subscription.

It suits founders who want a practical course on one tool or skill, such as a framework, Claude or paid ads, and want to keep it. Since May 2026 Udemy and Coursera are one company, with the two sites run separately.

450+ courses are free; Udemy listed paid courses at €14.99 to €219.99 each and Personal Plan from €12 a month, in the euro prices it showed on 30 October 2026.

Our take
Founders who want a hands-on course on one tool or skill and want to keep it. Buy a course on a framework, Claude or paid ads once, keep lifetime access, and ask for a refund or credit within 30 days if it was the wrong pick.
Pricing
Freemium450+ courses are free. Instructors price the rest from Udemy's price tiers, and promotions change them; Udemy gave the range as €14.99 to €219.99 a course, and Personal Plan as starting at €12.00 a month, as checked on 30 October 2026. Udemy shows each country its own currency and no other, so there is no dollar price to quote here. A course can be refunded or credited within 30 days; a subscription is not refunded unless the law requires it. Tax may be added at checkout.

The IndieHacked breakdown

What it does

Udemy is a marketplace: independent instructors publish courses and set their prices from Udemy's price tiers, or offer them free. The catalogue holds 250,000+ courses across development, AI, business, marketing, design and personal development, 450+ of them free, and a course bought on its own comes with lifetime access to its content.

Personal Plan is the subscription for one person: a curated 28,000+ of those courses, with skill assessments, role-play scenarios and lab workspaces, and a certificate of completion for each course finished. Access lasts while you subscribe; when it ends, progress and certificates for plan courses go with it. Teams buy through Udemy Business.

Who it suits

Founders who want to learn one tool or skill by doing: a web framework, no-code development, Claude or ChatGPT, SEO or paid ads. A single course is a one-time purchase you keep, and the 30-day refund or credit covers a wrong pick.

Personal Plan fits a founder who learns across many subjects in a year, with 2,000+ courses on ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini among its 28,000+. A founder with something to teach can also publish a course on Udemy as an instructor.

Not the right fit for

Founders who want a certificate from a university or a company the reader knows. Udemy's certificates mark a finished course; Coursera, now part of the same company, has courses, Professional Certificates and degrees from universities and companies such as Google and IBM.

Founders who need a dollar price before signing up, or a course for a whole team. Udemy shows prices only in your own currency, a course licence is for personal, non-commercial use, and teams buy Udemy Business, from €28 a user a month for 2 to 50 people.
