Valuation range

The valuation range puts a price band on a small SaaS business from its last 12 months of profit, or of revenue before it makes one.

Use it before you answer an offer, list the business or price a partner's buy-out.

The multiples come from Acquire.com's marketplace sales: often 3x to 5x yearly profit, or 1x to 3x revenue, as checked on 29 October 2026. It is a range, not an appraisal.

How the numbers work

The method

The calculator multiplies your last 12 months of net profit by the range Acquire.com gives for SaaS sold on its marketplace: often 3x to 5x yearly profit (guide updated 24 September 2026). Before a business makes a profit it uses Acquire.com's revenue range instead, often 1x to 3x yearly revenue. Acquire.com calls these "orientation points, not pricing formulas", and so do we.

The middle mark is Acquire.com's median: SaaS businesses sold on its marketplace in 2025 went for 3.9x profit, the same as in 2024 (Acquisition Multiples Report, published 11 February 2026). Acquire.com publishes no median for revenue multiples, so the revenue answer stays a range.

Range on revenue

Where you land in the range

Acquire.com says a clean, profitable business with low churn that runs without its founder day to day can sell above the range. Falling revenue, a few customers carrying most of it, messy books or a product AI could copy push a price below it. Buyers also weigh margins and how many customers stay.

Other marketplaces report lower figures. Flippa's SaaS sales from January to June 2026 averaged 2.47x profit, with the top quartile at 4.06x (Insights report, updated 24 July 2026). FE International prices businesses under $1M ARR at 2.5x to 4x seller's discretionary earnings, which is profit with the owner's pay and one-off costs added back (page dated 25 August 2026).

A range, not an appraisal

A range from public sales is where a conversation about price starts. It cannot see your contracts or your churn, and an offer often comes with terms, such as an earn-out, that change what the price is worth. For a sale, have someone who values businesses read your books.

Questions founders ask

How much is my SaaS business worth?

On Acquire.com's figures, small SaaS businesses often sell for 3x to 5x their yearly profit, or 1x to 3x yearly revenue before they make a profit (September 2026). The median SaaS sale there in 2025 went for 3.9x profit. Where yours lands depends on churn, growth and how much the business needs you.

Is a small SaaS valued on revenue or on profit?

Mostly on profit. FE International says businesses under $1M ARR are usually priced on seller's discretionary earnings, and Acquire.com's 2025 report measures profit multiples. Revenue multiples come in when there is little or no profit yet, which is why the calculator switches to revenue at 0 profit.

What is SDE, and should I add back my salary?

Seller's discretionary earnings is net profit with the owner's pay, benefits and one-off or personal costs added back, as FE International defines it. FE prices businesses under $1M ARR at 2.5x to 4x SDE. Acquire.com's ranges are on profit, so enter profit after a fair salary for the work you do if you use this calculator.

Why is the range so wide?

Because sale prices are. Two businesses with the same profit sell far apart when one keeps its customers and runs without its founder and the other does not. The range is where sales often land, not a limit.

Can I use it for a funding round?

No. An early funding round is priced on growth and on what investors expect the company to become, not on today's profit. These multiples come from businesses changing hands.

Does a calculator work in euros, pounds or kronor?

Yes. The maths is the same in any currency and the dollar sign is a label. Enter every amount in the same currency.

Is anything I type into a calculator saved or sent anywhere?

No. A calculator runs in your browser and nothing you enter leaves it. Close the page and the numbers are gone.
