The IndieHacked breakdown
What it does
Notion is built from pages and databases. A page holds text, code, images, toggles and more than 50 other content types; a database holds tasks, projects or anything else as rows you view as a table, board, calendar or timeline, with subtasks, dependencies and automations. Teams run their wiki, meeting notes, specs, projects and sprints on it, and Notion Sites and Forms publish a page or collect answers on the web.
Notion AI comes with the Business and Enterprise plans. The Notion Agent creates and edits pages and databases using your workspace, connected apps and the web; AI Meeting Notes transcribes and summarises calls; Enterprise Search finds answers across Slack, Google Drive, GitHub and other connected apps. Through Notion MCP, Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor read and write your pages, with your permissions.
Who it suits
Founders who want one place for the company's knowledge and plans: the roadmap, specs, meeting notes and the pitch deck. A solo founder adds as many pages and blocks as they like on Free, and when the first hire joins, Plus at $12 a member a month raises uploads to 5 GB and page history to 30 days.
It also fits a founder who wants AI to do work across those pages. Business at $24 a member a month brings the Notion Agent and AI Meeting Notes, and a startup with under 100 employees, a company website and a company email can apply for 3 months of it free, or 6 through one of Notion's partner investors and accelerators. Notion gives solo applicants and companies under 10 people 1 month.
Not the right fit for
Software teams who want a tracker built around issues, cycles and pull requests. Notion's projects are databases you set up yourself; Linear, reviewed here, comes with that workflow ready, updates an issue from its GitHub pull request, and its Notion integration shows Linear issues inside Notion pages.
Founders who want an AI agent across their docs on a solo budget. Notion AI starts on Business, $24 a member a month billed monthly, and Free and Plus get a limited number of trial responses.
