The IndieHacked breakdown

What it does

Envato, formerly Envato Elements, is a subscription to more than 30 million stock assets: video, photos, music and sound effects, fonts, graphics and 3D, and templates for video, presentations, websites and Figma or Canva designs. Every plan downloads without limit under a fair use policy, and each download is licensed for one project, so the same asset in a second project means downloading it again.

The AI tools generate and edit images, video, music, voiceover, sound effects, graphics and mockups, paid in AI credits that reset monthly; Core includes 20 a month, and a video takes several. Envato Market is a separate store: ThemeForest for WordPress themes and site templates, CodeCanyon for plugins and scripts, and five more sites, each item bought once with its own licence.

Who it suits

Founders who make their own launch video, ads, decks and landing pages, and need assets in several formats each month. Envato's own guide says it pays off for anyone who downloads "three or more assets per month". Licences cover commercial use, client work and products you earn from.

It also fits a founder working with AI. Plus adds 200 AI credits a month, with models such as GPT Image 2, Nano Banana 2, Seedance 2.0 and ElevenLabs, and an early MCP server lets an AI assistant search the catalogue and return links to items.

Not the right fit for

Founders who need one theme, one plugin or a couple of files a year. Envato's own guide calls buying items one by one on Envato Market more economical for light use. A Market item built into a product that users pay for needs the Extended License rather than the Regular one.

Founders who stop and start, or use one asset across many projects. Projects already licensed stay covered after you cancel, but new or unfinished work needs an active subscription, and a cancelled subscription is not refunded. Month to month, Core costs more than twice the yearly rate.
