Cursor
Cursor is an AI code editor and coding agent: you describe a change, and its agent reads the project, plans the work, edits the files and runs the commands, in the desktop app, the terminal or Slack.
It suits founders who write code, or can read it, and want an agent to do the typing while they review each change.
It is free with limited use; Plus is $8 a month for Cursor's own models, and Premium $30 a month adds Claude, GPT and Gemini at API list price, as checked on 30 October 2026.

- FreemiumLow priceFree: limited Agent and Chat requests with Cursor's own models. Plus is $8 a month and runs Cursor's own models (Grok 4.7, Grok 4.6, Grok 4.5 and Composer 2.5) at fixed settings, without cloud agents, Bugbot code review or third-party models. Premium is $30 a month with 4 times the usage of Plus and adds those; Super is $100 (15 times) and Ultra $200 (50 times). Billed yearly they are $80, $300, $1,000 and $2,000. The included usage is a weekly pool for Cursor's own models, shared with Grok, and unused usage does not roll over. Claude, GPT and Gemini are never in the pool: on Premium and up you pay their API list price from prepaid credit, and a monthly limit you set caps that spend. Team seats are $30, $100 or $200 a user a month. New customers buy Cursor as part of The X Subscription, which also covers Grok and X; the $20 Pro plan is a legacy plan for existing subscribers, as checked on 30 October 2026.
The IndieHacked breakdown
What it does
Cursor is a desktop code editor for macOS, Windows and Linux with an AI agent built in. You describe a task, and the agent reads the project, plans, edits files and runs terminal commands; Tab suggests the next edit as you type, across several lines and into other files. Settings, keybindings and extensions import from VS Code in one click, with extensions from the Open VSX registry.
From Premium up, cloud agents work in isolated virtual machines with your repository cloned, build and test the change, and push it to a branch for review; you start them from the editor, cursor.com/agents, the iOS app, Slack, Linear or a GitHub comment. Bugbot reviews pull requests for bugs and security issues, and Origin, in early beta, hosts Git repositories at Cursor. The model picker holds Cursor's own Grok and Composer models alongside models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google.
Who it suits
Founders who write code, or can read it, and want to hand off the typing: a landing page from a brief, a fix from a stack trace, a refactor across files. The agent proposes and you review the diff, so the decisions stay with you.
It fits a stack already on GitHub, reviewed here. Cloud agents clone from GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps and push back to a branch, and Bugbot posts its review as a check on the pull request. Sentry's MCP server, set up in Cursor's settings, lets the agent read production errors and traces before it writes the fix.
Not the right fit for
Founders who don't plan to read code. Cursor's agents hand back diffs and pull requests for someone to review and merge. Lovable, reviewed here, builds a web app from a description and hosts it, and Draftbit does the same for native iOS and Android apps.
Developers who want Claude or GPT on an entry-level plan. Plus at $8 a month runs only Cursor's own models, and from Premium at $30 the third-party models are billed on top at API list price. GitHub Copilot Pro, covered in our GitHub review, is $10 a month with Claude Sonnet and GPT models in its credit allowance, inside VS Code, JetBrains or Xcode.
